Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a great way to participate in the church community and serve Jesus at the same time. God uniquely equips every person in the church with certain skills and gifts. Using these skills as a volunteer is a fantastic way to serve the church. Here are some of the many volunteer opportunities at Jamestown.
Missions Committee
We are the church that feeds people, both physically and spiritually. This committee
continuously offers new missions and opportunities to serve others. Missions include Meals for
Home Members, helping to maintain our Blessing Box, and other feeding missions like the annual Stop Hunger Now, Backpack Ministry, and seasonal food drives & collections.
Hospitality Team
This team plays an important role of welcoming visitors and members – they are the face of JUMC each Sunday. Volunteer as Worship Service Greeters, Sunday morning Welcome Center Hosts, and Shepherd’s Team.
Worship Team
Through the assistance of the members and volunteers, this team is able to offer unique worship
experiences and lay-led interactions with visitors, guests, and other congregation members. Volunteer opportunities include Altar Guild, Ushers, Tech/AV Volunteers, Communion set up & servers, scripture readers, and youth Acolytes.
Music Ministry
Jamestown United Methodist has an amazing music ministry, known throughout the community for its Sunday morning contemporary and traditional services, cantatas, and special music events. We have a number of choral options and handbell groups for all ages: Chancel Choir, Handbells, and Praise Team.
Children's Ministry*
Children are the future of our church and it is important that we meet them where they are.
Families and their children are busier than ever with school, extra-curricular activities and travel sports. We offer Rock@5, a “children’s Sunday school,” on Sunday afternoons providing time for a meal, music, and bible time. We are always looking for teachers and volunteers to help facilitate with Rock@5, Vacation Bible School, nursery care, and other opportunities.
Youth Ministry*
With students ranging from 6th–12th grades, we welcome volunteers who enjoy working with this age group and who can keep up with their energy levels. Confirmation begins with this age group and having strong leaders & mentors to volunteer to act as Faith Friends is an important part of this ministry.
Senior Adult Ministry Team
This team plans our Senior Adult activities for our monthly “Young at Heart” and “On the Move” events. Volunteers are always needed to decorate and serve meals on event days.
Caring Congregations*
The care and wellbeing of our congregation are paramount to us. We offer a wide range of
ministries that contribute to the care and support of the congregational family. Volunteer opportunities range from praying as a Prayer Warrior, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Tender Loving Care,
and sending cards of well wishes, grief support, Stephen Ministry, memory care, and more.
Administration Team
Volunteer opportunities are always available in the Church Office. Needs include helping with labeling & sorting The Vine monthly newsletter mailings, office support (answering phones and opening doors), and clerical work.
If you would like to volunteer or need additional information, please call the church office (336) 454-2717.
*Denotes that “Safe Sanctuary” extra training is required for these volunteer opportunities.
