Missions & Feeding Ministries

Feeding Ministries

Feeding the hungry is one of the explicit commands Jesus gave all his disciples. We work to help people shed the burden of searching for their next meal.

Jamestown United Methodist Church is committed to easing the impacts of hunger and food insecurity for the communities of Jamestown, High Point and Greensboro. Your food donations will make a lasting impact on the lives of others. See below for a list of needed donations, to volunteer or to make a financial donation.

Jamestown Elementary Backpacks

Our backpack program serves food-insecure students attending Jamestown Elementary by providing them with nutritious meals for weekends and holidays.  The video linked below shares the history and process of this mission.

Blessing Box

The Blessing Box is a small food pantry that provides non-perishable food and hygiene items to members of the local community. A rotation of volunteers replenishes donated food on a weekly basis.

In December of 2021, the JUMC Mission Committee and Ragsdale Student, Sy Lester, created The Blessing Box.  This box was created to be a functional dwelling for non-perishable food items for our community; for anyone to take. Sy, was working on his Eagle Scout designation. With the assistance of his father and a friend, he built and erected a gift that will last forever!

Initiated as a community effort, members of JUMC will check the box several times throughout the week and replenish as needed. “This Blessing Box is a new undertaking for us and we know it will evolve as time goes on.  It is the hope of the committee, for the entire Jamestown community to become involved with providing food for this Blessing Box.” Items for you to consider placing in the Blessing Box are any canned vegetable, fruit, soup, meat, air-tight boxes/bags of pasta, rice, beans.

Helping Hands Food Drives

Helping Hands is one of the two largest food pantries in the Greater High Point area. The church holds food drives three times a year to support the ongoing work of Helping Hands.  Look for announcements on future food drives in our monthly newsletter or weekly bulletins.
