Member Care

Jesus calls us to care and support one another through the peaks and valleys of life. Congregational care is the heart of the church’s ministry and is carefully designed to help all people get through challenging times. Each of these congregational care ministries partners with the clergy to provide Christlike care for the church family.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are laypersons equipped to provide confidential, one-on-one Christian care to individuals who experience difficulties in their lives. If you are having a hard time, contact us to discuss whether a confidential, one hour, once-a-week conversation with a Stephen Minister may be right for you. This ministry is meant to complement—but not replace—care from our pastors, mental health professionals, or medical professionals. Stephen Ministers walk alongside those experiencing grief, stress, divorce, illness, miscarriage, infertility, job difficulties, unemployment, loneliness and more.

Congregational Care Ministries

We have trained Congregational Care ministers available to serve alongside each of our pastors and staff in congregational care by making hospital visits, following up on prayer requests, providing one-on-one support for those going through difficult issues, and much more.

GriefShare

GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. A group of friendly and compassionate people will support you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to grieve alone. GriefShare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You will gain access to valuable GriefShare resources to help recover from loss and rebuild your life.

GriefShare is a 13-week session that has been beneficial to many of our members as well as their family members.  This ministry is open to the community, as well.  If you or someone you know is struggling with the loss of a loved-one, we invite you to join us.

We meet Monday mornings 9:30am -11:00am.  Refreshments will be available.

The meetings are a combination of video and sharing/discussion.  Each participant has a workbook.  Sessions are led by Linda Stine, Sam Huffman, Susan Huffman, and Marilyn Yocum.

A Moment in Time

A Moment in Time, JUMC’s chapter of The Memory Café, is a social gathering of people with any form or stage of dementia as well as their Care Partner.  It is a stigma-free environment to gather, share and enjoy activities and refreshments with people who are going through the same thing.  Come, fellowship, get out and have a little fun!

We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month between 1:30pm – 3:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Reservations are requested but not required. To register or

Alzheimer's Support Group

This group is open to the community and focuses on those caring for a loved one with any form of dementia.  We are a group of caring, open individuals who share, support, and learn from each other.  Just in case you need to bring your loved one with you, we will have a room set-up just for them.  Trained volunteers will provide appropriate activities and a light snack.

Join us here at Jamestown UMC, the first Tuesday each month.  We meet in room 101.  The respite room, for loved ones, is the Fellowship Hall.

Prayer Warriors

Our Prayer Warriors continually intercede in prayer for the church and its ministries, and for our local and global communities. They pray for those on the prayer list published in the church’s newsletter as well as for special requests that come through the church office.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer shawls have been made for centuries. They are universal and embracing; they comfort and enfold; wrap and warm; mother and hug; and shelter and embrace. Shawls can be used for: undergoing medical procedures; birthing, nursing a baby; during an illness and recovery; during bereavement – there are endless possibilities! This is a “quiet” ministry. Join us and put your needles and hooks to good use, bringing comfort and prayer to those in need.

Tender Loving Care

TLC is a card–sending ministry that fosters fellowship within our church family and beyond by sending cards and notes of encouragement as well as notes of compassion in times of illness and loss.

Home Member Care

Being stuck at home can leave you isolated and anxious. Our Congregational Care team works diligently to foster ongoing, intentional connections with our home members through visitation, phone calls, meals and communion.
